In de nederlandse pers stond het iets ongenuanceerder, maar dit bericht uit The Moscow Times zet mij in ieder geval aan het denken: het mag dan 's werelds mooiste metro zijn, de volgende keer als ik er ben ga ik toch maar lopen.

Report: City May Ban Metro Kissing

Couples caught kissing on Moscow's metro could be fined under new regulations being considered by city authorities while those going too far could face jail, a newspaper's web site said on Friday. The ban could even extend to a husband embracing his wife, Stolichnaya Vechernyaya Gazeta said on its web site.

The newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, said the city authorities were thinking of introducing the ban on Jan. 1 to raise levels of public morality. It quoted a city education official, Tatyana Maximova, as saying metro travelers were indulging in increasingly lax behavior, including drinking alcohol from bottles and cans. Moscow police would not comment on the report.

Ekho Moskvy radio dedicated an entire show on the issue. Human rights campaigner Valeria Novodvorskaya told the station that if City Hall was serious about launching such an "Orwellian anti-sex campaign" she would encourage all Muscovites "to spend their days kissing in public places -- simply out of principle."
